BioOn
September 21st 1991, Architecture Student Dirk Swain was shot in the head
after a football game on Hampton University's campus in
Virginia. After three months of recovery, Dirk was killed On December 28th
1991 at the Heavy
D - Puff Daddy Celebrity Basketball Game. The
uncontrollable crowd crushed Dirk and 8 other people. From that day on,
Jason "J." Swain wanted to write that story, his brother Dirk's
story. J. Swain's pursuit of a film career finally took root in 1994, when
he left the Bronx, New York and headed for Atlanta, Georgia. Two years
later, he enrolled at Clark Atlanta University (CAU), where he was
determined to learn everything he could about the filmmaking process.
In addition to being elected President of "4 Reel Productions", the
first film and television company chartered by the University, he won
numerous awards for his work. At the CAU Film Festival in 1997, Swain
received a Kodak Film Stock Grant for being named Overall Winner for
his first film "Down 4 Whatever". In 1998, Swain formed his own
film company, Smilee Productions, Inc.; the name is in homage to his later
brother Dirk that was often called "
Smi-Lee". Swain graduated from CAU in 1999, with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Mass Media. By 2002, Swain moved to California and directed
a stage play he wrote called "I Choose 2 Be Me." The Play was
originally done as a stage reading, directed by the late star of "
Sanford & Son", and Mentor Whitman Mayo. Recently in New York City,
Swain Wrote, Directed, Produced and Starred in his Docu-drama, "City
Jewelz". City Jewelz is based on the last days before his brother's
untimely death. Swain amazingly plays his brother Dirk. Swain is still
on the grind, in addition to being the Assistant Director on BET's "
Remixed", Swain has directed and Produced videos for many Artists.
In 2005 Swain linked back up with long time friend and Executive
Producer Tracey Hicks of the Filming Company. Tracey produces all of
Director Dr. Teeth’s Music Video’s. Through The Filming Company,
Swain
has written Music Video Treatments for Rappers Mike Jones, Three 6
Mafia, Youngn', Ja-Rule, Hood Stars and many others.
Look out for this Old Director, that's just a new face on the scene.
Support Swain, because the many years of hard work and passion will
show in all of his Films.
